Parua Bay, Whangarei and beyond
For years Northland has been epitomised by The Bay of Islands and Cape Reinga, leaving the beauty of our local Whangarei Heads lying undiscovered. This is now changing yet it still remains a relatively hidden jewel alongside the main tourist route.
From its location on Mount Tiger, Eden House Bed and Breakfast Whangarei, overlooks this lovely Kiwi conservation area. A short 20 min trip to Bream bay walks and Smugglers Bay is a must. You are likely to find yourself alone on this scenic quiet nicely shaded inlet. Or, climb the path up majestic Mount Manaia.
Explore the myriad of lovely coves that lead to the 6 km long surfing Ocean beach.
Only ten minutes away is the A H Reed memorial park with its tree-line walkway that goes up into the Nikau palms and, towering Kauri trees. Minutes further on is the 26metre Whangarei falls thundering down into the Hatea river.
Forty minutes to the north east is Tutukaka. From here diving tours leave for Poor Knights Islands, one of the world's top ten heritage diving sites.
Whangarei itself is a charming harbour town with a traditional old world water-front. Here, yachts from all over the world anchor. Sit and watch the day go by from a host of cafes or Inns. The town offers recreational facilities such as kayaking, fishing, Maori excursions, cinema, theatres, museums, art galleries, Kiwi house and parks.
Just minutes south of Whangarei is the famous Longview wine estate.
Within a 30 minute radius of Whangarei are seven magnificent golf courses, the nearest of which, picturesque Pines golf club, is only a local 8 minutes from Eden House.
Over on the West coast only 45 minutes drive is the Dargaville Marine museum, the wild western beaches and the Kauri coast with New Zealand's largest Kauri tree - Tane Mahuta.
And the Bay of Islands itself with Paihia and Russell are only just over an hour from Eden House B&B. Making Eden House Bed and Breakfast an ideal base in which to discover the many delights of Northland.
